IT seems Samsung is planning a fully bezel-free display for its upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone. According to a report by Bloomberg, the South Korean tech giant will likely ditch the traditional physical Home button in favour of a virtual one.
The report further suggests that Samsung Galaxy S8 may come with a wrap-around display based on OLED technology.
Some earlier reports related to the Galaxy S8 have hinted that the smartphone would come in two variants based on the screen size and resolution. While one will feature a 5.1-inch Quad HD resolution display, the other will have a 5.5-inch Super Amoled display of 4K resolution. Both variants are expected to be powered by either Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Samsung Exynos 8895 SoCs, based on the markets they are made available in.
The 5.5-inch 4K resolution display variant is additionally expected to feature a dual-rear camera setup, as well as a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that’ll replace S-Voice.
Preliminary reports suggest that Galaxy S8 would pack a combination of 12MP and 13MP rear sensors. While the 12MP S5K2L2 sensor is expected to be the same as in the current model, the 13MP sensor may be made by Sony. Similar to other handsets, the dual-rear camera will give users better control over ‘depth of field’ in images.
The front-facing selfie camera is also expected to be upgraded to 8MP from the present 5MP in the Galaxy S7. There will also be an iris-scanner which made its debut on the now-discontinued Galaxy Note 7.
According to a report by SamMobile website, removing the 3.5mm audio jack will make the device thinner and the company will also be able to add a bigger battery. The report further claims that the company may also integrate stereo speakers in the smartphone, which are likely being developed in association with Harman.
The report adds that Samsung Galaxy S8 will sport a USB Type-C port and users will have to use an adaptor with to use headphones. The company will likely introduce new USB Type-C Level series of headphones alongside the flagship.
